Thrillers are a dime a dozen, but Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario” particularly stands out. You can see the thrilling film adaptation on free TV on Sunday.
In “Sicario” we accompany the young FBI agent Kate Macy (Emily Blunt) on a dangerous mission at the border with Mexico. There she was assigned by her boss Matt (Josh Brolin) to track down the leader of a drug cartel. However, the hiding place turns out to be a trap and Kate narrowly escapes death. In the further course of her mission, she is assisted by the mysterious mercenary Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), who, however, has other goals and is extremely unscrupulous in doing so.
If you haven’t watched “Sicario” yet, you should do so as soon as possible. On Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 10:10 p.m. you have the chance to catch up on arte. The thriller convinces with highly exciting sequences and a soundtrack that gets under your skin. It’s not for nothing that “Sicario” was nominated for the categories Best Sound Editing and Best Film Music at the Oscars 2016, among others.
Is “Sicario 3” coming soon?
“Sicario” was a huge hit with box office audiences and grossed nearly $85 million. With a budget of 30 million, the film adaptation was a commercial success. But critics were also enthusiastic about the thriller, as Rotten Tomatoes shows. Thus, “Sicario” received a 92% rating from a total of 282 reviews, which is an impressive achievement.
It was therefore not surprising that a sequel entitled “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” followed in 2018. However, Denis Villeneuve no longer acted as director here, but Steffano Sollima. Emily Blunt was also no longer part of the sequel, but Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Torro were allowed to continue. Whether “Sicario 3” is coming is currently unknown, but the chances are good since the second part was also successful at the box office. Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the screenplay for both films, may even have planned a trilogy.
“Sicario” remains unforgotten as a highlight of thriller cinema anyway. Denis Villeneuve proved with his work why it is still worth visiting the cinemas. But even at home you can’t do much wrong with “Sicario”. For this reason you should definitely watch the thriller on Sunday on arte.
