The Netflix series “The Crown” tells the story of Queen Elizabeth and her family. But the death of the monarch should now mess up the shooting. A break is now expected.
While season five of award-winning series The Crown is slated to hit Netflix in November, season six could be delayed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The screenwriter has now announced a possible break in filming.
“The Crown” makers planned Queen’s death months ago
It was announced more than a month ago that the creators of “The Crown” were making preparations for the Queen’s death. A source told the New York Post that the production had its own take on Operation London Bridge. This codename conceals a plan that regulates matters after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Plans for “Operation London Bridge” were first developed in the 1960s when Elizabeth became Queen in February 1952. The plan outlines what to do in the event of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, from announcing her death to the funeral and announcing her successor, Prince Charles.
According to this, “The Crown” producers should have planned their own “Operation London Bridge” for the death of the head of state if the Queen should die in the middle of filming. “This is especially important when we are filming. Filming will stop as soon as we are in production for at least a week. There has also been a lot of discussion as to when we should start again,” the insider is quoted as saying. This case has now occurred.
Filming break expected! Is The Crown Season 6 Delayed?
“I expect that we will also stop shooting out of respect,” quoted the industry journal “Deadline” as screenwriter Peter Morgan (59). In his brief statement, the Briton described the series as a “love letter to the Queen”. He has nothing to add at the moment, “just silence and respect”.
Since 2016, Netflix has been taking a behind-the-scenes look at Buckingham Palace with its award-winning series. The first two seasons depict the Queen’s early years between family scandals and political crises. The upcoming fifth season is about the early 1990s, when Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s relationship continued to deteriorate. The series is said to end with the wedding of Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. Whether the Queen’s death will change the script is questionable.
