Tesla will not like this: Chevrolet is on the attack and presents an “affordable game changer”. The Chevy Equinox EV is said to cost just $30,000. Many premium features are already part of the standard package.
Against Tesla: Chevy Equinox EV announced
Tesla is getting new and cheap competition in the USA. As Chevrolet has just announced, the standard Chevy Equinox EV will start at $30,000. Unlike the competition, some premium features do not cost extra but are already part of the package. In addition to seat and steering wheel heating, even windscreen wiper heating is included. Customers should not be asked to pay separately for a parking aid and a lane departure warning system either.
According to the manufacturer, the all-electric Chevy Equinox EV should have a range of 480 km. The charging capacity is up to 150 kW, assuming an appropriate fast charger. After ten minutes at the charging station, a range of just over 110 km should be offered. Chevrolet offers a battery guarantee of eight years or around 160,000 km.
According to the manufacturer, the Chevy Equinox EV will be no less than the cheapest model in the compact SUV segment. Despite the comparatively low price, customers should not have to do without comfort. E-vehicles are spacious, comfortable and safe. The infotainment system can be found on a display with a diagonal of 17.7 inches (source: Chevrolet).
Chevrolet plans to make the Chevy Equinox EV available sometime in 2024. A more precise release date was not given.
Chevrolet: Lessons learned from old mistakes?
Chevrolet’s efforts in the EV market have been bumpy so far. The Chevy Bolt became a safety hazard in 2020 when the battery on some vehicles burst into flames. A recall of 68,000 electric cars followed.
