Ben Stokes and his wife have slammed ‘nonsense’ claims that the cricket player attacked her at the 50th NatWest PCA Awards which saw him crowned player of the year. Pictures from the event show Ben holding Clare around the neck and pushing her backwards but in response, the pair have insisted that the allegations are ‘nonsense’ and they regularly ‘squish each other’s face’ to ‘show affection’. Taking to Twitter, Clare shared: ‘Unbelievable what nonsense these people will make up! ‘Me and Ben messing about squishing up each other’s faces cos that’s how we show affection and some pap tries to twist it in to a crazy story! ‘And all before we then have a romantic McDonalds 20 mins later!’ She tagged Ben in her tweet and he later retweeted and added a kissing emoji.
Clare and Ben became engaged in 2013 and married four years later in 2017; they are parents to a six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter. He praised his ‘supportive’ wife after he helped England to win the Third Test match in the Ashes earlier in 2019.
Clare has been brilliant and so supportive throughout the years. Your family goes through everything with you, good and bad, so it is great to be able to celebrate with them at times like this,’ he said.
