+++ Captain Rode at Eintracht training before the Marseille game +++
Captain Sebastian Rode attended Eintracht Frankfurt’s final training session on the club’s premises on Monday before the Champions League game on Tuesday (9 p.m. / DAZN) at Olympique Marseille. The 31-year-old midfielder suffered a muscle injury in the Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig and had to sit out two games. The Italian Luca Pellegrini, who has been plagued by slight thigh problems since the game against VfL Wolfsburg (0-1) on Saturday, was unable to train. Eintracht said so.
+++ Eintracht threatens to lose defender Lenz +++
Eintracht Frankfurt is threatened with the loss of defender Christopher Lenz in the next few games. The 27-year-old was eliminated from Wednesday’s Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon (0-3) at half-time with a hamstring injury. “He felt a pang,” reported Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner, adding: “We’ll clarify that on Thursday, but I assume he’ll be absent for a week or two.”
If the fears are confirmed, Lenz would miss the Hessians in both the Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday and in the Champions League away game at Olympique Marseille next Tuesday. The left-back was replaced by Luca Pellegrini against Sporting.
+++ Eintracht fails in Champions League debut: 0: 3 against Sporting +++
Eintracht Frankfurt’s premiere in the Champions League went horribly wrong. The Bundesliga club lost its first game ever in the European premier class against Sporting Lisbon with a clear 0:3 (0:0). Marcus Edwards (65th), Francisco Trincao (67th) and Nuno Santos (82nd) sealed the defeat of the Europa League winners with their goals on Wednesday evening. Eintracht have to play their second game in Group D at Olympique Marseille next Tuesday (9:00 p.m.). Another group opponent is Tottenham Hotspur.
+++ Eintracht at the premier class debut without a captain – Pellegrini back +++
As expected, Eintracht Frankfurt will have to do without captain Sebastian Rode on his Champions League debut. The midfielder will be out on Wednesday evening (6.45 p.m. / DAZN) against Sporting Lisbon due to thigh problems and will be replaced by new signing Junior Dina Ebimbe. Otherwise, coach Oliver Glasner can play with the same starting eleven as in the recent 4-0 win against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Christopher Lenz starts again as a left-back, but the recently injured new signing Luca Pellegrini is back on the bench.
