A powerful storm hit the town of Barcelonnette late Wednesday afternoon, causing significant damage.
Roads were washed away, cellars were flooded, and the Gaudissard had to get out of bed… The Ubaye takes stock two days after the storms. The municipality of Barcelonette is urging residents who have experienced a disaster as a result of the bad weather to contact the town hall as soon as possible.
Mayor Sophie Vaginay Ricourt says in a press release that she wants the state of natural disaster to be recognized.
“It’s critical to identify the claims as soon as possible,” the mayor said.
The torrent out of bed
Thunderstorms on Wednesday resulted in the fall of rocks, which tumbled down the torrent and obstructing a footbridge level crossing. The torrent erupted from its bed, sweeping the road away.
The Gaudissard road was completely cut off between the Gaudissard path and the Loule bridge on Thursday, and repairs were underway. The main goal was to restore the river’s natural bed.
